New install, don't know what to do....

New server installed this afternoon on a Linode VPS. I have been fighting it since the install. I have emails going outbound from the server to other email addresses, iRedmail actually highlighted some issues I had with my cpanel email.

Anyway, my biggest issue right now is receiving emails, they are all being rejected by procmail. I just cannot switch from cpanel to iRedmail with it running like this. I would have thought this would all be handled by the install but it does not seem so.

I would appreciate some pointers as to what I should be adjusting/changing to get the server to receive anything without rejecting it. I have 5 domains to transfer over before the end of the week so am desperate for a fix.

This is what I get in the mail log:

Jun  7 11:25:07 mx postfix/smtpd[3700]: connect from unknown[209.85.219.67]
Jun  7 11:25:08 mx policyd: connection from: 127.0.0.1 port: 54182 slots: 0 of 2044 used
Jun  7 11:25:08 mx policyd: rcpt=11, greylist=new, host=209.85.219.67 (unknown), from=XXXXXXX@gmail.com, to=YYYYYYYY@ozspeedway.net, size=0
Jun  7 11:25:08 mx postfix/smtpd[3700]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from unknown[209.85.219.67]: 450 4.7.1 <YYYYYYYY@ozspeedway.net>: Recipient address rejected: Policy Rejection- Please try later.; from=<XXXXXXX@gmail.com> to=<YYYYYYYY@ozspeedway.net> proto=ESMTP helo=<mail-oa0-f67.google.com>
Jun  7 11:25:08 mx postfix/smtpd[3700]: disconnect from unknown[209.85.219.67]

This was me trying to send something from gmail to my test account on iRedmail. The XXXXXXX and YYYYYY is just masking the real names. The user DOES exist in iRedmail under the domain specified.

I also get the following errors back FROM procmail on the iRedmail server on occasion:

Sender address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table

To summarise: Procmail is rejecting ALL email sent to it. I have no idea where to fix this problem. MX records all point the right place. iRedmail server can SEND emails out from this address. While I do not want to be open to nasty people relaying through my server I do want to receive valid emails from the outside world.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, when an user inputs an incorrect password, I have the following message in the logs:

mx1 postfix/smtpd[1069]: warning: unknown[89.xx.xx.xx]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed: UGFzc3dvcmQ6

Which is perfectly normal.

But how can I also show the username in the logs? I want to see which user keeps entering the wrong password...

Thanks!

HI

I have read the page on importing from other mail servers and pretty much follow. I currently have a cpanel server doing the email and it stores it in Maildir format, all good so far.

I found the emails to transfer but before I do I need to ask, does it matter that the server name in the email filename is different from my new mail server? Will the servers in iRedmail reject the mails with them not being originally from the new server?

Cheers

Hi.
FYI - I've substituted my actual domain with <mydomain> through this post.

"SPAM FROM LOCAL" notices which should get delivered to root@<mydomain> are being bounced by postfix.
I receive a copy via postmaster@<mydomain> in the form of an  "Undelivered Mail Returned to sender" email.
If I send (from a 3rd party server) an email to either postmaster@<mydomain> or root@<mydomain> I receive them not issue.
Any ideas on how I can resolve this?

On line 362/3 of default config of /etc/amavisd/amavisd.conf, I've change to:
$final_banned_destiny     = D_DISCARD;
$final_spam_destiny       = D_DISCARD;

I have default for:
$policy_bank{'MYUSERS'} = {
    originating => 1,
    allow_disclaimers => 1,
    virus_admin_maps => ["root\@$mydomain"],
    spam_admin_maps  => ["root\@$mydomain"],
    warnbadhsender   => 0,
    smtpd_discard_ehlo_keywords => ['8BITMIME'],
    terminate_dsn_on_notify_success => 0,
};

I have a mailbox josh@<mydomain> with an alias for root and postmast on it.

Postfix maillog shows:
to=<root@<mydomain>>, relay=dovecot, delay=0.12, delays=0.05/0.01/0/0.07, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (user unknown)

Hi,

    I'm setting up my own email server in hopes to move away from gmail, I hate the idea of someone at google having the ability to look through all my emails. I setup everything using iRedMail on my Netbook running Ubuntu 13.04 and it seems to be working fine however one thing iRedMail installed was cluebringer/policyd. From what I read it appears to be a blacklist/whitelist for emails you can setup, this seems cool and I will figure it out more later from the site's documentation. In the meantime it's sucking all my CPU power near 100% all the time. I have no idea why, does anyone have an idea of why it's doing this and how to fix it?

TL;DR: The title sums it all up! smile

Where does iRedMail store DNS setup?
I changed the parameter "nameserver" in file /etc/resolv.conf from 192.168.0.1 to 8.8.8.8

[root@mx1 /]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

But postfix request to 192.168.0.1 for the determination of MX records.
This occurs, when the check is performed reject_unknown_sender_domain in smtpd_recipient_restrictions

[root@mx1 /]# tcpdump -i eth0 dst port 53
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode
listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes
10:48:51.390256 IP 192.168.0.122.59707 > 192.168.0.1.domain: 52552+ MX? yandex.ru. (27)
10:48:51.390596 IP 192.168.0.122.35064 > google-public-dns-a.google.com.domain: 59012+ PTR? 1.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa. (42)

Why does postfix request to 192.168.0.1, if the parameter "nameserver" in the file /etc/resolv.conf is set to 8.8.8.8

Mailgraph how to

$

- iRedMail version: 0.8.4
- Store mail accounts in which backend MySQL
- Linux/BSD distribution name and version: FreeBSD 9.1

====

Since it took me about 2 hours to get mailgraphs working, and I can't seem to register on the wiki page, I wanted to share a quick how to on getting mailgraph working under FreeBSD.

Yes, iredmail comes with AWStats and it collects some very valuable statistical data that's good to have. I have always been a fan of those RDD style graphs and this is where mailgraphs comes in at.

step 1:
Update your Ports Collection:

#portsnap fetch
#portsnap update

Step 2:

Install RRDTool from ports:

#cd /usr/ports/databases/rrdtool
#make config-recursive
(stick with all the default prompts)
#make install clean

Step 3:
Install mailgraph

#cd /usr/ports/mail/mailgraph
#make config-recursive
(again default options are fine)
#make install clean

Set mailgraph to run on startup
#echo 'mailgraph_enable="YES"' >> /etc/rc.conf

Step 4:
Here is the part that I missed and caused mailgraph not to render graphs

#chgrp www /var/log/maillog
now we can start mailgraph
#/usr/local/etc/rc.d/mailgraph start

Step 5:

Browse to www.server.tld/cgi-bin/mailgraph.cgi and in time you will see a beautiful graph

demo: http://www.stat.ee.ethz.ch/mailgraph.cgi

mailgraph home page: http://mailgraph.schweikert.ch/

In order to have the max user space (mailboxes) and max number of users, how do you suggest I partition the HD? And I allocate space for the mount points?

However, everytime I try to login any user, the error "Connection to Storage server failed" shows.
The output of the /var/log/mail.log is this

I believe this has to with SASL Authentication. Essentially, a program a client uses from a 3rd party company sends mail out to his clients as his email. It get's delivered to the clients however, he always receives a bounce notification for himself.

If I remove from smtpd_sender_restriction the option "reject_sender_login_mismatch" it works.

Is there an alternative that will only affect the user or domain rather than globally?

Thanks,
Neil

First, let me start off by apologizing for being a beginner in managing a mail server. Because iredmail is too simple to set up, I managed to use it to install a mail server on a VPS. Webmail via Roundcube works very well, both sending an receiving works fine. However I was trying to send and receive mails via Bat, an email app for Windows. Receiving works fine. I just set up my server FQDN in the program, chose TLS and port 993.

However I'm unable to send mail via the program, via my server.

netstat showed that ports used by dovecot were: 4190, 993, 995, 110 and 143. I used "Regular Authentication". None of them allowed me to send mail.  I'm sure I'm missing something fundamental here.

Port 25, TLS:

I'm writing a tutorial on iRedMail and want to include instructions for filtering inbound mail through mailgun.com - mailgun removes SPAM, then forwards msgs on to iRedMail server.

Mail is sent to hong2.com - the MX for hong2.com goes to mailgun.com for filtering
Mailgun forwards mail to user@inbound.hong2.com - the MX for inbound.hong2.com points to my iRedMail server

I just want <any user>@inbound.hong2.com to deliver to <any user>@hong2.com. I believe this is just a simple domain alias setting.

I keep getting this error: User unknown in virtual mailbox table;
Jun 13 07:12:15 x postfix/smtpd[9327]: connect from mail-s65.mailgun.info[184.173.153.193]

Could you please document the mysql domain alias manual setup more clearly? This is what I did below:

I added an entry to the alias_domain table. And, I made aliases =1 in the domain table for hong2. See further below... but nothing I do is changing the postfix error message.

>cd /etc/postfix/mysql
> for cf in $(ls *.cf); do echo ${cf}; postmap -q jeff@inbound.hong2.com mysql:./${cf}; done
Outputs this:

Hi Zhang,

Access policy is not working as expected. I have created a mailing list & marked only moderators  can send email. Added a domain gmail.com in the moderators list when i try sending mails from yahoo.com  it should reject but its not happening.

I  see that there is a problem with mailing list alias name. While create a  mailing list my ldiff file is

dn: mail=test@mail.xxxx.in,ou=Groups,domainName=mail.xxxx.in,o=domains,dc=xxx,dc=com
accessPolicy: allowedOnly
accountStatus: active
cn:: VEFLRTEwIE1BSUxJTkcgTElTVFMg
enabledService: mail
enabledService: deliver
mail: test@mail.xxxx.in
objectClass: mailList

When i add an attribute called shadow address via backend phpldapadmin it works as expected.

shadowAddress: test@xxxx.in

Do i need to add shadowAddress everytime i create a mailing list manually via phpldapadmin?

Thanks
Soundarajan
